SHENANDOAH VALLEY INTERSTATES

Forthcoming New Book Project

As a companion to his plein air collection illustrated in Oh, Shenandoah, Andrei has created a unique series of paintings of the interstate routes running through the historic Shenandoah Valley landscape: I-81, I-66 and I-64.  The works thus become important symbolic vestiges of our time, providing images that are also satisfying and beautiful. These paintings will only appreciate in their relevance as the landscape transforms due to development and urban growth, much as the works of painters of the past are now valued for capturing notable places and times gone by.

The publisher of Oh, Shenandoah, George F. Thompson Publishing, Staunton, VA is beginning editorial work towards issuing this new book.  The book will contain essays by the artist and historian Warren Hofstra, will be distributed by the University of Virginia Press, and will be commercially available from the publisher and all booksellers. The paintings themselves will be exhibited in a public venue at a future time.
